On your way to wealth (or higher wealth), you will feel an inner sense of doubt along the way. Maybe you will just be tired, or over-worked, or time crunched on a work project. Perhaps someone else got the promotion that you were gunning for or a competitor gained the sale you were seeking. The stress will set in when you are dealing with difficult stretches. It’s not uncommon to hang your head low and wonder to yourself, “What’s the point? I just can’t do this. I’m never going to get there.”
“There was once a time where all of the villagers decided to come together and pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all of the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. That is FAITH!” – Unknown
These are all natural feelings that come up along the journey of success. The road to the top is never straight up with the aid of an express elevator. That’s not how life works. Life is about absorbing “kicks to the tic-tac’s” and “punches to the gut.”
So if you find yourself tired, worn out, and wondering if you will reach your wealth goals, here are 4 reminders that can help you get refocused and help you keep the faith;
- The juice is worth the squeeze. If your wealth goal comes from the heart and is at the core of your inner being, then the accomplishment is so much sweeter when the challenge is so great. Think about it. If winning an NBA title was really easy, would Michael Jordan have cried so much when he first kissed the NBA championship trophy? Big goals take enormous efforts and sustained commitment to the task. You must really believe that you will make your dreams come true or there are just too many distractions along the way to derail your focus. Envision yourself at the finish line after you accomplish your personal objectives. The journey will be difficult and challenging but the juice is so worth the squeeze.
- Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. The majority of people won’t be willing to put in the work necessary for success. Dreams alone won’t cut it in a hyper competitive world. Use this to your advantage. Know that most people lack the drive and commitment to accomplish big things. This applies to many aspects of life. It doesn’t matter if you were interested in becoming a top musician, athlete, student, or wealth builder. Everybody will encounter set-backs and tough times. Be persistent at the core of your wealth building ambitions. Don’t let tough times derail your long term plans.
- It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Hard work over long periods of time is what counts. Small bursts of energy can maybe get you over a speedbump or issue, but it’s not enough to take you from goal line to goal line. Most people just have a lottery ticket or “it’s just luck” mentality towards real success. They don’t want to put in the sustained efforts over prolonged periods of time. Don’t be that person who starts out like a jack-rabbit and then needs a nap. The reality is, success in wealth can often be a boring grind. So embrace the grind and pace yourself appropriately for the longer race that wealth building really is.
- Review past accomplishments. If you are really getting kicked around take a time out and review a past accomplishment that was really difficult to achieve. What did it feel like when you persevered? How proud were you when you didn’t give up and kept at it until you accomplished your goal? How proud will you be when you accomplish something even bigger and grander? Use the past to motivate you on the future. You are capable of big things because you’ve already proven in the past that when you put your mind to something, everybody else better look out.
Never lose faith in yourself. I believe in you because you believe in you.
Good habits lead to good behaviors. Good behaviors lead to good decisions. Good decisions lead to a good life. Live by principles and choose wisely.
